Welcome to OLEG, Inc. from Our President

Thank you for taking the time to learn about our mission. I  am writing you as the President and Executive Director of OLEG (Organization for Liberal Education in Georgia) Inc., an independent nonprofit with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status founded by St. John’s College students and alumni. OLEG's  mission is to promote traditional liberal arts education in the country of Georgia and provide the opportunity for students to study abroad. At the foot of the Caucasus mountains of conflict-ridden Georgia, there is a school which models itself after the program of St. John’s College.  The mission of New Gelati Academy, founded in May 2008, within Grigol Robakidze University in Tbilisi, Georgia is to revive traditional liberal arts education in the country of Georgia. The pillars of their curriculum are: "Great Books", Discussion based classes and Study of original texts.

Having traveled and worked with New Gelati Academy last summer  I am personally committed to the success of New Gelati Academy and to giving what I got from my experience to other students. Through OLEG's partnership with New Gelati Academy we have identified their primary needs as

  • faculty development
  • student enrollment
  • help establishing the Bachelor of Arts with the Georgian Ministry of Education.

OLEG will continue to assist and work with New Gelati to achieve these goals and to fullfil our larger mission of promoting traditional liberal arts education in the country of Georgia. I invite you to learn more about our featured project below. Thank you in advance for your support.

Sincerely,
Noel Brockett

Our Need

We currently have a group of 15 students and two tutors who are committed to participate and run our 2009 summer trip. To make this happen, the group has been working hard, saving every penny, conducting fund raising and planning our stay to be as economical as possible.  The average cost per person is $2700 (roughly $1500 for airfare and $1200 for all inclusive accomodations). Our budget for the entire trip is $50,000.

  • We need to raise $6,700 for our tutors
  • We need to raise $43,300 four our students
  • We invite you to support us by Donating and Contacting us

Through the unique relationship between New Gelati Academy and OLEG that will be strengthened by the summer trip, a new pathway of information sharing will continue to be opened between Georgia and the United States. In order to accomplish these worthy goals and growth, OLEG needs your help to make the trip possible.
